At our office, Dr. Joseph Blalock offers both in-office and take-home teeth whitening services, using high-quality peroxide-based whitening agents.
Peroxide has the unique ability to destroy the chemical bonds that hold stains in place, restoring the natural white color of your enamel and eliminating surface stains and yellowing.
In-office whitening delivers rapid results and is perfect for special occasions, while take-home whitening takes a bit longer, but allows you to whiten your teeth more gradually, and without spending time in the dentist’s chair.
The process begins with a consultation at our office. Dr. Blalock will use dental putty and trays to create a mold of your teeth, then send this mold to a dental lab, where a set of custom whitening trays will be made.
Then, in a few weeks, you’ll come back to our office to get your trays, whitening products, and a set of whitening instructions. Next, you’ll simply follow your instructions to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home.
Dr. Blalock will begin by cleaning your teeth, coating your gums with a protective gel, and using retractors to isolate your teeth from your oral tissues. Then, he will apply a layer of whitener to your teeth, and use a UV light to activate it. Then, Dr. Blalock will rinse away the whitener from your teeth.
Depending on your level of staining, this process may be repeated several times to provide you with a brighter smile.
There are no serious side effects of teeth whitening, and there is no recovery period. However, your teeth may be a little bit sensitive after your treatment. Depending on your case, this may last anywhere from a few days to several weeks post-treatment. We recommend Sensodyne or a similar anti-sensitivity toothpaste if your teeth are feeling very sensitive.
Teeth whitening can last up to 3 years with proper care, so it’s a great long-term way to restore your smile.
Typically, teeth whitening is the cheapest method of cosmetic dentistry, so it’s a great option if you’re on a tight budget.
